About the Department
The Department of Mathematics is part of the College of Arts and Sciences at Syracuse University and consists of approximately 30 professors whose research interests cover a broad spectrum of mathematics: algebra, analysis (including numerical analysis and probability), combinatorics, geometry, statistics, topology and mathematics education. At the same time, we are small enough so most of the faculty and most of the graduate students know each other. Several of our faculty members are internationally known for their excellence in research and teaching.
The Department offers undergraduate degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science and post-graduate degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. A joint program with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science allows students to receive the degree of Master of Science in both mathematics and computer science. For more detailed information about the Department's programs, consult the Undergraduate Program and Graduate Program web pages.
